Common Causes Of Thyroid Symptoms In Women

Thyroid symptoms in women are found more often than you may think, as the condition is not that rare. The thyroid has a vital function to play as it enables the body to control its metabolism. Very simply put, it makes it possible for the body to use the energy from food.

The thyroid gland produces two different hormones which are thyroxine-T4 and thyroxine-T3. T4 has four iodines and is more commonly found in the blood, while T3 has three iodines but is much stronger than T4. The body is able to convert T4 to T3 if necessary.

Symptoms of a thyroid imbalance might be quite difficult to spot as they can be indications of other diseases. They include feeling fatigued or run down, having dry skin, gaining weight, having cold hands or feet, not being able to sleep properly and feeling depressed. Other indications are constipation and a compromised immune system.

It occurs when the thyroid is unable to produce enough thyroid hormone. This can sometimes be due to a poor diet or not eating enough. A side effect can be raised cholesterol levels. This is because if the woman has a bad diet that contains a lot of sugar and low in nutrients. The body’s natural reaction is to make extra cholesterol which is then released into the blood. It does this because cholesterol can heal tissues and also produce protective steroids.

When cholesterol levels are too high the person is at risk of heart disease and cancer, and can be more prone to infections. An additional problem may be that the body is unable to convert the thyroid hormone so that it can be actively used. This conversion is done by the liver and kidneys, so if these are not working properly the conversion will not happen.

There can be the problem of the thyroid being over active and producing too much hormone. The thyroid symptoms in women may include losing too much weight very quickly, having dry skin and feeling the heat more than normal. It is always best to see a doctor if you have any concerns about this disease.
